"Material Effects has been a key part of my life since 1986. Since those early days of working with a telephone in my hand and a baby on my hip, through more than 20 years, I have never wanted to do anything else.

I love the textiles, the colours, the furniture and the passionate and committed people in the Decorating and Design Industry throughout the country that I work with. I remember my customers, the fabrics they use, and sometimes even their window sizes. I often remember their children, and always their dogs.

I love that ordinary people like me want to make the best of their environment, and enjoy helping them in all the ways I can. Designing, helping them to choose furniture, making curtains, teaching them to make their own ottoman, guiding them through the process of designing their own room, all these things help to make their homes practical and pleasurable to live in.

I prefer to work with natural products that are kind to the environment and believe that they can have a better effect on our health than many 'allergy free' products for instance.

Like everyone, I like to feel good about what I do. For me that means I want to have fun, I want those around me to enjoy my company, I want to know I've given people what they want from me.

My fundamental principle for a successful life and business is that all my relationships, with family and friends, with suppliers and customers alike must enjoy mutual trust and respect.

I think I am very lucky to be able to work at something I love and like to think I am contributing to the industry I love with my skills, my god-given talent and my drive to always do the best that I can."
